Axel Arigato for Mulberry: A New Collaborative Capsule
Exploring Mulberry’s unique place in British fashion history, the starting point for the 35-piece collection was a deep dive into the Mulberry archives, and an exploration of memorable pop culture moments from the past 50 years.
The range of fashion-forward leather bags are inspired by three archive Mulberry designs. The first plays on the scale of Mulberry’s Oversized Bayswater, the largest version of the brand’s original iconic bag. The Top Handle bag takes the Maddison silhouette and reworks it as a versatile, multi-wear bag, whilst the Shoulder bag is a contemporary evening bag, inspired by the timeless Westbourne. The bags are available in a selection of bold colourways, from vibrant emerald green and bright azure blue to monochrome and classic black.
Split-colour trenches, relaxed-fit denim and embroidered varsity jackets appear in sophisticated, neutral tones. The capsule also includes Axel Arigato’s Area Sneaker, a silhouette that has been inspired by vintage basketball references. For the collaboration the Area sneaker is adorned with Mulberry’s iconic Postman’s lock and custom strap – which is a first for the Axel Arigato brand.
Featured throughout the capsule is a collaborative badge that combines Mulberry’s tree emblem and Axel Arigato’s insignia, to create a crest that ref lects the collaboration’s collegiate and community spirit. Mulberry’s iconic hardware has also been reinterpreted for the collaboration. The Postman’s Lock appears decoratively on hero ready-to-wear styles and footwear, whilst a reworked padlock and key forms a functional closure on the selection of bags, representing the coming together of both brands.
The collection adheres to both Mulberry’s Made to Last ethos and Axel Arigato’s responsible design approach. All bags are produced in the UK at Mulberry’s carbon-neutral Somerset factories with environmentally accredited leather; all footwear is handmade in Portugal from a combination of leather and polyester produced using recycled PET bottles; and all cotton used is Global Organic Textile (GOT)-certified.
Bringing the collection to life, the brands will be co-hosting an event in London on the week of April 17th, celebrating their shared affinity with music and culture. Customers will be able to experience the Axel Arigato for Mulberry world through an immersive pop-up in the atrium space at NK Stockholm, running from the 17th April to the 7th May.
